Amelia Island Fishing Spots

Fort Clinch Southern Beach

This beach is located at the north end of Amelia Island inside of Fort Clinch State Park. There is a daily admission fee to enter the park, or you can buy a yearly pass which covers all Florida state parks. Current pricing is available from the ranger station at the entrance to the park, which is located on Atlantic Avenue a few blocks from the beach. 2005 prices were $5 per car (up to 8 people, daily) or $80 for a yearly park pass. The park is open from sunrise to sunset daily.

The beach is south of the Fort Clinch pier and the south jetty. (satellite image)

There are two ways to access the beach; from the pier, there is a walk down to the beach, and at the south end of the pier parking lot there is a board walk access to the beach. The water is very shallow near the jetty, so I'd suggest you fish a few hundred yards south.

We've caught blues, trout, and whiting fishing here. The beach usually isn't crowded, even during the summer, so you shouldn't have a problem picking a spot to surf fish here.

A bad day of fishing is much better than a good day of cutting the grass.
